“What about Cyrus, then?” suggested Lucy. “He always seems to be alone. Maybe we should stop by the office and see if he’ll come along. Did you bring your truck, John?”
John shook his head negatively.
“Nope, we flew. I suppose we should offer to him as he’s been good enough to help promote us. Deb, what do you think?”
Debra looked sheepish.
“I’ve just barely gotten the hang of flying John around town. Not sure I can manage supporting two people.”
“That’s ok, I understand. Why don’t you and John fly over to Cyrus’ with the invite? You’re organizing it anyway. Besides, I know when and where to meet you.”
Debra grabbed John and flew off towards Cyrus’ office, knowing they didn’t have much time left before it closed for the day.
“Lucy didn’t say thank you,” Debra pouted.
“Seriously, Deb, when do you ever know Lucy to say thanks?” John reminded her. “I think she’s very happy to be included.”
They touched down at the office of Cyrus Mulroney, their manager, with minutes to spare.
“Good to see you,” he said upon opening the door, but clearly couldn’t hide his surprise. Debra sensed Cyrus might have been waiting for someone else. John quickly explained the plan and shared the invite.
“Really?” Cyrus said eagerly. “I’d love to spend time with you. But if it’s not too much to ask, can I bring someone along?”
Debra and John looked at each other eagerly. While they’d expected Cyrus to come alone, this would solve their headcount issue to needing only one more.
“The more the merrier!” Debra responded eagerly. “We will see you and your friend tomorrow at three at Vito’s!”
After that, Debra and John flew back home.
“I’ve got to get in and join the family for dinner,” John told her. “I’ll let them know what our plans are. Any ideas who the last invite should go to? We’re running out of time.”
“No good ideas yet,” Debra admitted. “But I know who we can’t invite. Still, I think I’m going to fly over and pay Nate a visit so he doesn’t feel left out.”
Nate remained Debra and John’s closest friend since grade school.
“Just don’t get caught,” John reminded her “You know how his family feels about you.”
“How they feel about Flying Glory, you mean. If I wasn’t Flying Glory, they’d have no problem with Nate and I staying friends. That’s been the only dark side to gaining these powers. I don’t want to lose such a great friend.”
“Tell him I said hi,” John said, and then headed back toward his own house.
Debra took to the skies again, this time headed to Little Tokyo.
