Vince hurried off to seat the next waiting group while one of the Vito’s wait staff stepped in and mentioned the prix fixe dinner for the evening.
“Each dinner will come with Giantassio-Style Italian Wedding Soup, salad with the house Italian dressing, pumpkin risotto, lasagna, stuffing with Italian sausage, and roast turkey. Tiramisu will be for dessert.”
“It all sounds wonderful,” Debra told the waiter. “Thank you.”
As the waiter left, Debra turned to Krystal and spoke to her in a whisper.
“Actually, do you know what all that stuff is? Most of it is clear, but I didn’t want to be rude about words I didn’t know, like risotto.”
“You should be fine,” Krystal told her. “Risotto is a rice dish, which they’ve cooked in pumpkin and probably other spices. Tiramisu is the coffee-flavored custard cake you’ve probably had before. I am just trying to figure out why the soup is Giantassio-Style.”
“Giantassio is Vince’s last name,” Lionel explained. “It’s probably the family recipe.”
“So where did the name Vito’s come from?” Cyrus asked. “Is that his grandfather?”
“His great-grandfather, actually,” Lucy explained. “Vito Giantassio. He started the restaurant, and his son Roberto took over.”
“I never knew that,” John said. Truthfully, Debra didn’t either until that moment.
Soon the waiter returned with the soup and salad, and everyone paused for a moment to reflect and give thanks for each of their own situations. They expressed how grateful they felt to be with each other on this special afternoon, while also thinking of absent friends.
Debra gave thanks for all that finding her powers as Flying Glory gave her – not just the fame and attention, but the people it brought into her life. She looked forward to new adventures ahead.
